Building Economic Security

Workers and small, local businesses are the backbone of our economy. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic it is critical – more than ever – that we protect workers and invest resources into ensuring our small businesses can weather this financial storm. I will champion:

  • Supporting worker rights and livable wages: Strong unions and the ability for workers to organize for quality wages, benefits, and safety protections contribute to increased community purchasing power and a healthy economy. Domestic workers and gig workers who have been historically excluded from worker protections need to be included as well.

  • Protecting and investing in small businesses: We must ensure businesses have the support they need to get through this economic crisis. By increasing access to capital and incubation programs for micro-entrepreneurs, we can smooth the barriers for communities of color, communities with low incomes, and immigrants who may lack the necessary capital to start a small business.
